Few days ago, we began putting out word about ANQR among a select group of friends and acquaintances, to the end of onboarding their fashion businesses as ANQR vendors, ahead of our planned launch on July 1st, 2020. The last couple of days have gone by in a flurry of presentations, Q&A sessions and explanations about how our systems work. Foremost among these questions is that of sustainability and timely remittances.
E-commerce is not entirely new to the African fashion industry. There have been successes, failures and outright scams. Without naming names, you may recollect one particular dazzling brand which had a meteoric rise but just as quickly fizzled out scandalously.
I have been asked about our long-term projections to be sure that we are not going to fold up and trap vendors’ funds. Here’s my response, for the benefit of our wider audience:
We have put in place a triple protection plan to ensure that we are sustainable over the medium and long terms:
- Our business is backed by local and international investors. We also have a robust and active board of directors with a combined experience of about 100 years.
- A bank guarantee assures the funds of every vendor awaiting payment. The guaranteed sum will be doubled once we exceed 1000 vendors. All sales proceeds go into an escrow account until our vendors initiate payout from their respective accounts.
- Our business is protected by comprehensive business insurance including Goods-in-transit insurance. Every item picked from vendor locations has insurance cover from that point up till the customer acknowledges delivery.
ANQR is here to stay for the long term, God willing and with the cooperation of our vendors.
Therefore, we have also done our part to ensure that you do not have to suffer from any avoidable risk associated with our operations. Not only are we committed to providing ceaseless assurance to all fashion businesses selling on ANQR, we also walk the talk since we know that when you all win, we truly have won.
To cap, I reiterate our strategic objective which is to reintroduce Africa to the world in light of the creative minds and hands of its youthful population. ANQR is the multi-vendor e-commerce website with the sole objective to showcase, promote and sell every fashion item #MadeinAfrica, from clothing to wigs, shoes, bags, jewelry and kiddies wears. Today we are Afrocentric fashion creators, tomorrow we could create every other thing we want.
